Job Summary

The role of a Service Miner includes a wide variety of work such as rehab ground support, cable bolt install and tension, timber and concrete work, service installation and other duties as required. The worker is experienced and proficient in ground support installation, construction mining tasks and is able to complete them efficiently with minimal supervision.

Miners will inspect existing underground headings, scale loose rocks and install ground support to stabilize rock mass and ensure overall safety in the construction of a mine. The tasks may involve the operation of scaling bars, pneumatic hand-held drills, use of rubber-tired underground mobile equipment such as mechanized bolters, scissor trucks, shotcrete sprayers and other support vehicles in a confined environment.  Other tasks associated with this position may include, but are not limited to, the installation of vent tubing (air, water and pumping lines), other construction work and maintenance jobs. It is mandatory that employees in this position be able to operate the LHD.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect the workplace and make safe as required
  • Perform equipment checks
  • Familiar with cable bolt installation, grouting and tensioning
  • Familiar with Ground Support and installation
  • Operate various types of mobile equipment
  • Operate hand-held drills such as jacklegs and stopers
  • Follow established regulatory, company, and client rules and regulations
  •  Other duties as required


The individual will have the authority and responsibility for maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. He or she must follow company safety and health standards and report any unsafe acts or conditions to his or her supervisor. The individual is responsible for the use of all safety equipment, i.e., lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation. He or she is also responsible to ensure proper use of personal protective equipment.
